The Home of Our Delight – The Power of the Written Word

The written word has never been more elusive than in today’s fast paced, social media driven society. The poignancy of this fact is brought into sharp focus by the fantastic current exhibition at Rook Lane Chapel, The Home Of Our Delight in my home town of Frome.

I was asked by Rook Lane Arts to consult, advise and help to design The Home of our Delight, exhibition, a lottery funded month long museum exhibition that explores the stories of the young men marked on the Mells village memorial, and of their families. Artefacts showcasing written correspondence direct from the front line of The Great War are carefully curated and brought to light by the researchers at Rook Lane Arts, and expertly presented in an exhibition that evokes the spirit of the age. Together with the reproduction of original photos from the time, the exhibition invites us stop and contemplate the lasting power of the written word in today’s digital age.
